Rule #17 Resolve to NEVER Believe You're Too Old Ever!

I recently read a great story.

A ship’s engine failed, no one could fix it. then they brought in a man with 40 years experience on the job. He inspected the engine carefully, top to bottom. After looking things over, the guy reached into his bag and pulled out a small hammer. He gently tapped something. Instantly, the engine lurched into life. The engine was fixed!

7 days later the owners got his bill for $10,000. ‘What?!’ the owners said, you hardly did anything. Send us an itemized bill.

The reply simply said: Tapping with a hammer = $20

Knowing where to tap = $9,980

I was so afraid to turn 40. Like so many others I had grown up believing this meant I was in fact “over the hill.” It was at 43 I felt my life was over. I hadn’t achieved a fraction of what I had wanted and expected of myself. Then one day sitting in my office, I picked up a copy of a book I authored in 2010, “Push Play: Taking Your Life Off Pause.” It was a kick in the gut. 35 year old Jason took a verbal hammer to 43 year old Jason.

It was while reading my own words intended at age 35 for “other” people some of who were 40 or over I took a huge pause. Did I believe what I had written back then? Is it true it’s never too late to get started? Could it be possible I still had a ton to offer at my age? Then I began writing my next book the revised and updated edition of “Push Play.”

I can assure you the added wisdom, added failures and shovel fulls of humility I consumed from 35 to 43 make the latter a better read. That’s not to say the original effort isn’t good. It is. I put my heart and soul into it, and I’m proud of the work. However, the second effort benefits from things only being on this earth a little longer can provide.

You rule!
